Cargotec's and Solarigo's cooperation began with lengthy negotiations. Cargotec's contract negotiators were aware of quality and precise about technical details. The installation site also made the construction phase of the power plant more challenging than usual due to stricter safety regulations.
WITH RECOMMENDATIONS TO CONTRACT
It was important for Cargotec to map the experiences of Solarigo's previous customers in order to obtain a basis for comparison. Although the negotiations were long, the process was rewarding for both parties. Convinced by the customer references, Cargotec ended up with the larger implementation offered by Solarigo with a 360kW system. Solarigo began the design work based on the customer's needs: first, the technical data such as electricity consumption, safety instructions affecting the installation and the price tag for the total investment were clarified. Cargotec is an international company, so Solarigo also delivered the materials and instructions in English – an important fact that increases the skills of the employees and contributes to safety measures. Cargotec offered the installation staff safety training, which further strengthened the cooperation.
RESPONSIBILITY AT THE CORE
By switching to solar energy, Cargotec aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the company's operations. According to the company's sustainability goals, 50 percent of the company's electricity consumption in 2021 comes from renewable energy sources. Achieving this goal requires long-term investments with a high maintenance reliability. The simplicity of Solarigo's operating model suits this well, as Solarigo not only installs the solar power plants for the company, but also maintains them properly throughout their lifetime. The approximately 1,300 solar panels installed at the Tampere office bring Cargotec an annual electricity production of 260MWh, which corresponds to 11 percent of the Tampere office's total consumption.
CARGOTEC
Cargotec ended up choosing Solarigo as its partner thanks to its customer orientation and functional contract model. Solarigo delivered a larger solar power plant to Cargotec and despite demanding safety measures, the installation went smoothly. It has been gratifying to notice that environmental values and sustainable development are an important part of the company's strategy for a major player.
