SELF-SUFFICIENCY
FROM THE SUN

The LEMENE project

Solarigo participated in the LEMENE energy technology flagship project led by Lempäälä Energia in the role of solar power plant supplier. Solarigo delivered a 2,000 kWp ground-mounted solar power plant for use by the LEMENE energy community in 2019. When completed, the solar power plant was one of the largest in Finland. The 2,000 kWp solar power plant delivered by Solarigo covered half of the project's 4,000 kWp solar power.

Solar energy as part of an energy self-sufficient community

The LEMENE project (Lempäälä energy community) is a flagship project of the Ministry of Labor and Economy, which was completed in 2019. A self-sufficient smart energy system was implemented for the Marjamäki industrial area near Ideapark. In the new operating model, operators in the industrial area can join a decentralized energy system, where energy is produced with solar panels, gas engines and fuel cells.

A TOP PROJECT IN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY REQUIRES A VISION

The basic idea of the Lempäälä energy community has been to build an intelligent and self-sufficient energy microgrid, which will secure the energy supply needed by the entire region in a self-sufficient manner. The system's energy production is generated by gas engines, solar power plants and fuel cells. In addition to the production units, the energy system includes electric batteries, a thermal battery, a heat pump and five substations, which are connected together by their own regional medium voltage network.

Solar power was chosen for the project because it works well alongside gas-based CHP production, supplementing the energy balance during summer days. Two solar power plants were sought for the project, both with a size of 2000 kWp.

Solarigo was chosen due to its capacity for large-scale implementations. At the same time, Solarigo had other implementations of the MW class. The installations of the solar power plant were carried out professionally and on the agreed schedule:

"Solarigo was involved in the planning of the project's implementation from the beginning and brought its own expertise to the project already at this stage. During the project, Solarigo's project manager was active and handled the work and communication in an exemplary manner," says Jarno Lintunen, CEO of Lempäälä Energia.

The production of the solar panel field has met expectations. In the LEMENE environment, with the help of the batteries of the hybrid system, it is possible to equalize the power fluctuation of solar production, for example when the weather changes. The project has sparked a lot of discussion about the development of the energy sector in general, as well as from the perspective of utilizing technology. Lempäälä municipality's high priorities are pioneering the energy sector and HINKU (carbon dioxide neutral municipalities) goals. With the help of solar power, the municipality and the LEMENE project have received a lot of positive attention.

Solarigo is a capable, reliable, open and responsive partner. Handling things with Solarigo has always been smooth and expertise has always been available very quickly when needed.
