Puuilo operates as a tenant in the properties of its stores, so a service model solar power plant seemed like a carefree and reasonable solution. The first 3 solar power plants were installed in 2022 and more are planned.

Good experiences with the PPA contract model
Puuilo was founded in 1982 and the company is one of the leading department store chains in Finland. The strongly growing company already has more than 30 department stores around Finland and an online store. The product selection includes construction supplies, tools, car supplies, garden supplies, HVAC and electrical supplies, pet supplies, household goods, food supplies, and equipment for free time. Puuilo serves mainly do-it-yourself customers and companies. The company is always known for its affordable prices and wide range of products.

GOOD EXPERIENCES FROM SOLAR POWER PLANTS
Puuilo surveyed the solar power plant partner for both financial and responsibility reasons. Solarigo's SOPIMUS model piqued Puuilo's interest, as the solution seemed reasonable and carefree for a department store chain operating in rental properties. Puuilo is committed to buying renewable solar electricity from solar power plants built by Solarigo as long as they operate on the property. Three suitable sites were considered for the first summer, where solar power plants suitable for the stores' electricity use were built. The projects went as planned without causing disruption to the customer.
"I have been in contact with Solarigo a couple of times during the summer. We have established the project schedules and the situation, and we have not had to do much else, and our operations have not been disrupted. So the service has worked as it should," says Puuilo CEO Juha Saarela.
MORE SOLAR POWER PLANTS COMING
With growth, Puuilo has felt that they have a greater environmental and social responsibility than before. Puilo has been asked more and more about responsibility measures, and they have been happy to answer the questions with concrete measures such as the purchase of renewable electricity, solar power plants and energy efficiency measures. With the growing responsibility, more solar power plants are also planned to be commissioned in the coming years.
"We open 3-4 stores every year, and every year there are stores where it would be reasonable and desirable to build a solar power plant," explains Saarela.
Based on our experiences, I would describe Solarigo as a reliable and good partner. Everything has gone as it should have, and I would like to think that we will continue to cooperate with the same model in future destinations.
